May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I want to take a moment to speak from the heart—both as the Interim CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dallas and as someone who has always been deeply passionate about mental and emotional well-being.
Long before I stepped into leadership roles, I chose to study psychology in college because I was fascinated by how the mind works—and, more importantly, because I believed in the power of healing, hope, and human connection. That belief continues to guide me every day.
At BGCD, our mission goes far beyond providing a safe place after school. We are a second home. A support system. A source of encouragement, guidance, and love. And for so many of our young people, that emotional support is just as essential as academics, meals, and mentorship.
Mental health is not a one-month conversation, it’s a year-round commitment. And at BGCD, we are making it a priority. This month, and every month, we are committed to:
Creating safe, welcoming spaces where our kids can express their thoughts and feelings without judgment.
Equipping our team with the tools and training to recognize when a child needs extra care.
Partnering with mental health professionals and community resources to bring accessible support to our families.
Empowering our youth to build resilience, self-awareness, and the confidence to advocate for their own well-being.
This is deeply personal to me—not just as a leader, but as a mom, a mentor, and a lifelong advocate for the emotional wellness of children and teens. I believe that when we care for the hearts and minds of our youth, we unlock their full potential.
Thank you to our families, partners, and community for standing with us. Together, we can build a future where every child feels seen, heard, and supported—mind, body, and spirit.
