Volunteer Spotlight: Mark Dann

It is National Volunteer Month, and we had the chance to sit down with one of ours! Our success as an organization wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers! Meet Mark Dann. He has been volunteering with us for a year and a half now at our Mesquite Club! We asked him a few questions about his experience as a volunteer and here’s what he said:

What does a typical day at the Mesquite Club look like for you?

I volunteer to help with kids K-2. I help with everything from check-in, especially snack time since the younger ones eat first, and anything that the staff might need that day. Sometimes we get to do outdoor activities! From time to time, I like to bring in special snacks like cake or sweets!

Why did you decide to volunteer with BGCD?

I love the organization and the purpose of it all. I have always wanted to be around and work with kids, so I knew this was the right opportunity. Now that I am retired, I finally have more time to do things like this. I love kids – it’s in my heart! I have two kids of my own, but they are all grown up and moved out, and I’m a kid at heart!

What did you do before retiring?

I owned my own home-building company. That took most of my time.

Thank you so much to al our volunteers! We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our mission. Sign-up today to volunteer with us at bgcdallas.org/volunteer
