Math Blazers

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, hundreds of members across different Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas came together at Grand Prairie Boys & Girls Club to participate in our annual Math Blazers competition! It was an event everyone was looking forward to and the gym was packed with Club members, staff, family, and volunteers all in support of the event.

Math Blazers is an annual event at BGCD allowing 3rd– 12th-grade students to display their math skills in a competition that covers specific skills tied directly to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) objectives at each grade level. Contestants of the competition were judged on correct answers and the speed at which answers were given.

All of our Math Blazers showed their spirit with matching T-shirts, creative banners, and overall spirit to inspire their teammates to do well in these competitions. The really is a two-part event where the Blazers initially complete a set of math problems on worksheets. They then move into the relay portion of the competition. completed a series of physical challenges, such as push-ups, jumping jacks, and jumping rope! They then complete a difficult math problem, before running as fast as they could back to the finish line to tag in the next teammate.

The competition ended with an award ceremony where Club members were recognized for their amazing work and great performances in each category.
